<p>Discovery Elementary School opened in 1991 and is home to the Eagles. In October 2009, the school had 647 students. The school enrolls students from kindergarten to the 5th grade.</p> <p>In late 2009, there were more boys enrolled at Discovery, making up about 53 percent of the students. The 36 teachers have more than 11 years of experience, on average and 69 percent of them hold their master's degrees.</p> <p>School officials are proud of participating in the Issaquah School District's "Caring Through Sharing" program, which involves students helping those in need. In the past, students have sent books and blankets to people in other countries.</p> <p>The school offers several "outdoor classrooms" to students -- including a nearby 37-acre wetlands area to study and explore, a butterfly garden, a regular garden and a growing area with native plants. The school's "Green Team" promotes recycling and strives to have Sammamish's most environmentally friendly school.</p> <p>The school's <a href="http://www.issaquah.wednet.edu/documents/maps/Discovery.pdf">attendance zone</a> is largely the area southeast of 228th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 8th Street.</p>
