Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District

The Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District is home to an iconic landmark in the area - a two-million gallon water tank with painted images of trees.

As of November 2010, the district served more than 50,000 people in parts of Sammamish, Issaquah and unicorporated King County. The district had about 16,300 water customers and 10,100 sewer customers.

It also publishes annual water quality reports and information about fluoride in the water.

Its offices are behind the water tower and where the five-member commission holds its meetings. Residents in the north part of the district should note that their sewer service is handled by the Northeast Sammamish Sewer and Water District. But the Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District issues bills for this utility, according to its website.

The district accepts personal checks and money orders in a drop-box at its offices. Customers also can mail in their payments and sign up for an automatic billing service, which is linked to a checking or savings account.

The district began in 1948 when 35 people living near Pine Lake formed it. It was originally known as King County Water District 82.
