Lake Sammamish was alive with boats and paddlers Saturday, May 12.
About 60 vendors set up shop at Lake Sammamish State Park on a beautiful Saturday in Issaquah to show off their wares, run a paddling race, and give people to opportunity to try out a little paddling in canoes, kayaks, and on stand-up boards. It was the second annual Northwest Paddling Festival, and the first time it was held in Issaquah. Last year the event was held in West Seattle. Here are some photos from the event. Add yours too!

Eastside beat Blanchet 6-4 Saturday, May 12, for the win.
On Saturday, the sun was shining in Seattle and on the Eastside Catholic Crusaders, as they beat Blanchet in extra innings to clinch the Metro Championship with a score of 6-4. They brought home the trophy and did it with fight and class. Jeff Bohling, of Bellevue, hit his second walk off homer to win the game in the bottom of the 9th, while Alex Foley, of Issaquah, pitched nine innings and got the win. Eastside Catholic, with a 16-5 record, will play at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue in the Class 3A regionals.

Lace up those sneakers: King County's third-annual Big Backyard 5K is set to return to Marymoor Park on May 20, and registration discounts are available for those who sign up quickly. Race organizers are running a Living Social promotion through today that includes registration, T-shirt, race beanie, food, drinks and more for $26. Regular registration is $40. The 5K, open to runners, walkers, dogs and strollers, begins at 9 a.m. and will be followed by a free kids' dash at 9:45 a.m. Caspar Babypants will perform after the running events. The foundation funds scholarships for aspiring teachers from underrepresented communities. Tryon's family asks that remembrances be made to the Humane Society.
Amy Tryon, of Duvall, an Olympic equestrian and retired Eastside firefighter, passed away in her sleep on April 12 at the age of 42. Tryon was a career firefighter at the Pine Lake Fire Station 81 before retiring to pursue her Olympic dreams. She represented the U.S. at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic games. ISSAQUAH -- Matt O'Neill and Ben Director each scored four goals as Issaquah extended its unbeaten string to a 11 games with a 14-3 boys high school lacrosse win over Lake Washington Monday at Issaquah High School. The win kept first-place Issaquah’s perfect season intact and was the eighth game this season where the Eagles put up 10 or more goals. After playing to a 1- 1 tie in the first, Issaquah netted four goals in the second to take a 5 - 3 lead into the intermission. But in the second half the Eagles' defense kicked into gear blanking the Kangs for the final two quarters. A baker's dozen of runners from Sammamish and Issaquah completed the Boston Marathon yesterday despite sweltering temperatures.
Hardy souls from Sammamish and Issaquah endured high temperatures in the mid-80s on Monday to finish in the 116th annual Boston Marathon. Thousands of entrants didn’t run the race this year, possibly because of heat warnings issued ahead of time, according to The Associated Press. A total of 22,426 runners started the race, about 84 percent of the registered field of 26,716 entrants, The AP reported. Congratulations to our local runners! Sammamish and Issaquah will be well represented next Monday during the 116th Boston Marathon. Nine runners from Sammamish and seven from Issaquah are registered to run in this year’s 26.2-mile event. You can see who else from our state is registered on the official race page here. Several of this year’s local entrants took part in last year’s Boston Marathon, too. Matthew Adamson ran it in 3:35:13, finishing 9,220 overall. Rebecca Adamson ran it in 3:39:25, finishing 10,413 overall. And Brian P. Dillon ran it in 5:41:22, finishing 23,651 overall.
