Electricity and natural gas rates for Puget Sound Energy customers will increase May 14 following action by state regulators earlier this week, the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission has announced. Electricity rates for residential customers will go up by 3.2 percent while natural gas rates will rise by 1.3 percent, according to a news release from the commission. The changes mean the average residential customer's monthly electricity bill will go up by $3.30 to a total average of $102.56. A typical natural gas customer, meanwhile, will pay $1.08 more each month for a total bill of $86.09. The Community Garden at Beaver Lake has been delayed, likely until 2013, the city of Sammamish said yesterday. Originally, the city hoped to open the garden for planting later this summer. The city of Sammamish notified residents yesterday that a problem has come up due to the location of a PSE gas line constructed within the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) easement. This means the city must wait for guidance from BPA to finalize permits for the garden. Residents and the city have been actively planning for the community garden for over a year. The city has budgeted $200,000 for the garden, which will be located at Beaver Lake, along SE 24th Street across from 246th Ave SE. The cost stems from bringing water from Beaver Lake Lodge. …

Tuesday night's fierce winds created new power outages for Puget Sound Energy customers, including some in Sammamish who told Patch they lost power again last night. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory until 4 a.m. Jan. 25. At midnight, there were 50,000 customers, including the 12,000 customers affected by last week's snow and ice storm, without power. Overnight, PSE's service line employees restored power to 28,000 of the 38,000 customers who lost power Tuesday night. There are 10,000 customers who lost power overnight now without service, in addition to the 12,000 affected by last week's snow storm. As of Monday morning, Jan. 23, hundreds of Sammamish and Issaquah Puget Sound Energy customers remained without power. PSE may offer a small consolation to those who have been without power for an extended period of time, reported the Associated Press.
