Sammamish Football Note: A Quick Look at High School Squads

One of the big games on Friday night will be Skyline High School taking on Bellevue High School.

Skyline High School Football: The Spartans played a tale of two halves in their season opener against Liberty on Friday night. Skyline trailed 21-14 in the second quarter, before scoring 48 straight points to run away with a 62-27 victory. Quarterback Max Browne got off to a strong start, completing 16 of 18 passes for 190 yards and four touchdowns. Nate Gibson also threw two touchdowns for Skyline, which avenged last years’ season opening loss to Liberty in impressive fashion. Next up for Skyline is a juggernaut Bellevue High team. The Wolverines are fresh off an upset 31-21 victory over Oaks Christian of California last Saturday. Kasen Williams' Three State Titles Pace Skyline at State Track Championships

Kasen Williams wins three state titles - and sets a state record - to pace Skyline to a fifth-place finish at the state track and field championships.

Kasen Williams has seen two sports seasons end in disappointment during his senior year. The Skyline High School football team fell in the 4A state title game to Ferris and the Spartans basketball team fell short of the state tournament. With track and field his last chance for a successful prep sports career send-off, Williams went off in style. Williams won three state titles, including a state record in the 4A boys triple jump, to help lead Skyline to a fourth-place finish at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) state track and field championships on Saturday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. It was a fitting send-off for the young man who has become perhaps the greatest athlete in Skyline High School …

Eastlake High Soccer Knocks Off Skyline 2-0 to win 4A Boys Soccer State Title

Brandon McComb and Sean Klauer score second-half goals to clinch the State title at the game in Lakewood.

Brandon McComb of Eastlake High School came off the bench in the early stages of the second half on Saturday afternoon and scored the game-winning goal in the 46th minute. Sean Klauer added another goal in the 58th minute, as the Eastlake High School boys soccer squad (14-3-2) defeated Skyline (15-3-2), 2-0 , in the Class 4A state championship match at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood. The Wolves won their third state championship, following up State Titles in 1996, and 1997. For the Spartans, this was the best finish in school history for boys soccer in 2011. "This is by far one of the best feelings," McComb said. "I just had to take the opportunity when I went in, and finished it." The first half was one where Skyline had an advantage in …

Eastlake Boys Soccer: Wolves knock off Gig Harbor 2-1

The Wolves will likely take on Garfield in the quarterfinals on Saturday night thanks to timely goal scoring by Gerard Galvin and Brandon McComb.

Brandon McComb’s advantageous flick on goal in the 49th minute pushed the Eastlake High School (11-3-2) boys soccer team to what would end up being the game-winning goal as the Wolves beat Gig Harbor (14-3-1) 2-1. The team played in the first round of the 2011 State 4A Boys Soccer Tournament on Tuesday night at Eastlake High School. In the first half, the Wolves generated some chances against the Gig Harbor side but neither team could take advantage and break through. The teams went into halftime with a scoreless tie, as both keepers - Zack Wile for Eastlake, and Korey Durkee for Gig Harbor - were in top form. "It was a tale of two halves," Eastlake High School Head Coach Adam Gervis said. "I thought we were a little nervous early and didn…

In Girls' Basketball, Eastlake High Lady Wolves' Season Ends in Loss to Edmonds-Woodway

Coach Sara Goldie's squad fell short in their attempt at a state playoff run, succumbing to the visiting Warriors 58-44 on Tuesday.

For 16 minutes on Tuesday night, it looked as though the Eastlake High School Lady Wolves were going to pull it off. Facing an Edmonds-Woodway team that had won 14 of its previous 15 games and finished fifth in the state tournament last season, the Lady Wolves rebounded from a shaky start to take control during the third quarter before eventually succumbing to the more seasoned Warriors, 58-44. Eastlake built its largest lead of the game at 35-24 on a Caleigh McCabe free throw with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter and would enter the final quarter with a nine point lead and seemingly all the momentum. But all of that changed rapidly as the Warriors suddenly regained their footing on the offensive end, running off 29 …

Skyline High School Boys Bounced, in Basketball, by Bellevue's Newport

J. Jay Davis' Skyline boys basketball team season ended with a 53-46 at the hands of the Newport Knights Thursday in the third-place game of the 4A KingCo tournament.

The Skyline High School boys' basketball team saw their season end on Thursday in the third-place game of the 4A KingCo tournament, 53-46 to the Newport High School Knights. After jumping out to leads of 13-2 and 18-4 in the first quarter, the Spartans struggled through the next two-plus quarters, scoring only 14 points during a 23 minute stretch that saw the Knights take control. Newport converted on 18 of their 22 free throw attempts during the fourth quarter while Skyline shot six free throws for the entire game. Skyline took a 22-19 lead into the half and were able to withstand the Knights' run to open the third period even as Kasen Williams collected his third foul four and a half minutes into the quarter. Newport sophomore Issac …
