Eastlake Boys Soccer: Wolves Topple Garfield 3-0

Opportunitistic Wolves offense and tough defense knock off Garfield.

The Eastlake High School boys' soccer squad (12-3-2) put together three goals in a nine minute span of the first half to take control and cruise to a 3-0 win over ninth-ranked Garfield High School (16-3-1). The team played Saturday in the state quarterfinals at Eastlake High School. At stake, was a berth in the state semifinals on Friday night in Lakewood. The visiting Bulldogs came out flying in the opening 10 minutes, creating pressure on the Wolves defense. Led by Michael Gallagher, they held up strong allowing the attack time to get rolling later in the first half. James Gee and Sean Klauer struck first for Eastlake as their tireless efforts to create chances paid off, especially in the 21st minute. Klauer outhustled the Garfield …

Dramatic Ending - an OT Victory - Leads Skyline High Boys' Soccer Team Into State Semifinals

Pedro Miola and Austin Dodd scored two late goals to stun Mariner in the second half and overtime.

EVERETT -- Pedro Miola just thought "don't miss." He didn't. With the ball at his feet just in front of the Mariner (17-4 overall) goal and Marauders keeper Ulises Hernandez falling away, Miola reacted instinctively. He deposited the game-winning goal into the roof of the net to send Skyline High School to the 4A boys soccer state semifinals with a 3-2 overtime victory - for the first time in school history. "It felt crazy," Miola said. "There were so many emotions throughout the game. There was frustration, there was happiness, there was joy...just a game to remember." Miola's second goal of the game, came in the second minute of the sudden death overtime period and capped a two-part thriller that left a Mariner High School home crowd …

Mariner should have won this game, i agree that Skyline is a great team, but i also agree that Mariner did even greater and by the end of regular time they should have won. If it wasn't for the referee then we wouldn't be eliminated but the referee stole our game. Why add 8 extra minutes after the end of regular time? and why did he finally whistled the end right after Skyline scored the 2-2 goal…   more ›

Eastlake Boys Soccer: Wolves knock off Gig Harbor 2-1

The Wolves will likely take on Garfield in the quarterfinals on Saturday night thanks to timely goal scoring by Gerard Galvin and Brandon McComb.

Brandon McComb’s advantageous flick on goal in the 49th minute pushed the Eastlake High School (11-3-2) boys soccer team to what would end up being the game-winning goal as the Wolves beat Gig Harbor (14-3-1) 2-1. The team played in the first round of the 2011 State 4A Boys Soccer Tournament on Tuesday night at Eastlake High School. In the first half, the Wolves generated some chances against the Gig Harbor side but neither team could take advantage and break through. The teams went into halftime with a scoreless tie, as both keepers - Zack Wile for Eastlake, and Korey Durkee for Gig Harbor - were in top form. "It was a tale of two halves," Eastlake High School Head Coach Adam Gervis said. "I thought we were a little nervous early and didn…

In Basketball, Skyline High School Girls' Squad Out In State Tourney, Losing 54-64 to South Kitsap

South Kitsap's barrage of three-pointers was too much for Spartans.

After punching a ticket to the WIAA state tournament, the Skyline High School girls' basketball team took a first round exit Friday evening at the hands of South Kitsap. The team lost to South Kitsap, 54-64. From the start, the Spartans struggled to find offense with the Wolves jumping out to an early 10-0 lead. The Spartans took control in the second quarter by taking the lead 23-22 with 2:47 to go in the half. But the Wolves closed the half on another 10-0 run lead by seven of Jackie Steiger's 15 first-half points. Through the second half, the Spartans looked to senior Michelle Bretl who added eight points in that period and finished with 16. Coming down to the wire late in the fourth quarter, the Spartans brought the game within three …

In Girls' Basketball, Eastlake High Lady Wolves' Season Ends in Loss to Edmonds-Woodway

Coach Sara Goldie's squad fell short in their attempt at a state playoff run, succumbing to the visiting Warriors 58-44 on Tuesday.

For 16 minutes on Tuesday night, it looked as though the Eastlake High School Lady Wolves were going to pull it off. Facing an Edmonds-Woodway team that had won 14 of its previous 15 games and finished fifth in the state tournament last season, the Lady Wolves rebounded from a shaky start to take control during the third quarter before eventually succumbing to the more seasoned Warriors, 58-44. Eastlake built its largest lead of the game at 35-24 on a Caleigh McCabe free throw with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter and would enter the final quarter with a nine point lead and seemingly all the momentum. But all of that changed rapidly as the Warriors suddenly regained their footing on the offensive end, running off 29 …

The senior and freshman from two Sammamish hgh schools ruled the 3A and 4A swim and dive championships in Federal Way

Hallowell took titles in the 100 (44.75) and 200 freestyle, giving him an astounding eight state championships in his career. The Eastside Catholic senior took home two titles in each of his four years swimming for the Crusaders. "It was kind of unreal," said Hallowell of the moment he realized he had won his eighth championship. The senior also talked about the importance of blocking out the focus on the totality of his run of championships and focus on each individual swim. With a strong fan base in attendance, some sporting T-shirts with clever references to Hallowell, the …

Newport converted on 18 of their 22 free throw attempts during the fourth quarter while Skyline shot six free throws for the entire game. Skyline took a 22-19 lead into the half and were able to withstand the Knights' run to open the third period even as Kasen Williams collected his third foul four and a half minutes into the quarter. In Sammamish Basketball, Eastlake High Girls Too Much for Inglemoor, Move Into Third Place Game

The Lady Wolves dominated the second and third quarters on Tuesday to take control of their 4A KingCo playoff contest against the Vikings from Inglemoor.

The Eastlake High School LadyWolves, behind a game-high 21 points from junior forward Kendra Morrison, proved far too much for the Inglemoor High Vikings Tuesday afternoon at the Juanita Field House. Coach Sarah Goldie and her Lady Wolves moved past Inglemoor, 66-53, to remain alive in the 4A KingCo girls' basketball tournament. Using a harrassing full-court trap throughout the game, the Lady Wolves took control over a four and a half minute stretch in the first half that saw them push their lead from two to 15. Eastlake continuously caused problems for Inglemoor ball-handlers, trapping guards near the sideline boundary and forcing several misguided passes that were immediately turned into easy points on the other end. The Lady Wolves team…
