Denise Steele Darnell grew up in the central valley of California and then lived in Pleasanton, Calif. before moving to Sammamish. For eight years in California, she worked as a middle and high school counselor.

Her three children, ages 12, 8 and 6, all attend Issaquah School District schools. Her husband teaches and coaches baseball at Liberty High School in the district.

She enjoys taking her family to fun activities on the Eastside or in Seattle. Her favorite activity in Sammamish are the concerts in Pine Lake Park during the summer months.

She loves getting outside and going for walks, in addition to browsing in the library and reading a good book. She tries to "live green" and hopes that all the development in our area will not take away the beauty and the animals that make Sammamish so special.

Her family has two rescued cats that were adopted and she tries to promote "until they all have homes....adopt, don't buy" when she hears that a family is looking for a new pet.

She would love an email if you end up adopting one of the pets from the weekly Adopt this Pet column.
