Update: Brush Fire Closes Trails on Mt. Si

The brush fire has increased to 10 acres but is now contained at the base of the mountain.

Update, 10:40 a.m. July 27: The entire trail system on Mt. Si is now closed as crews continue to fight a brush fire that is now 10 acres in size.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources announced the closure at around 10 a.m. Saturday, saying the trails would remain closed "until further notice." The Seattle Times reports the closure is in place to protect climbers and hikers as a helicopter dumps water on the blaze.

The fire has been contained at the base of the mountain, but firefighters are still working to control it at the top, according to the Times.
