Adopt This Pet: Teddy the Schipperke

Motley Zoo Rescue is looking for Teddy's "forever" home.

Teddy’s lucky day came when he was taken from a Washington animal shelter and placed in a Motley Zoo Animal Rescue foster home. He is a 23-pound ball of fun and spunkiness. His fur is gorgeous and lush and he  is 8 years old. Since little dogs can often live to be more than 14 years old, he will fill your home with love and loyalty for many more years. Many animal shelters don’t have the space to keep older dogs. So, it is great that Motley Zoo gave Teddy a second chance.

Teddy is house trained and great with other dogs. He will chase cats if he is allowed, so no cats unless a family is willing to be patient and work with his chasing instinct. He would be best with children 8 years and older and who are respectful of dogs. He wants his own family and a nice human lap on which to rest. One requirement is that he can’t sleep on or wear dog clothes that are made of cotton, as he is allergic. Also ask about his food allergies. Motley Zoo is aware of what works best for him in terms of allergies.

Notes from Teddy’s Foster Home: Teddy is a loving, sweet boy. He just wants to please. The longer you have him, the sweeter he becomes! Until he is comfortable and settled in, he is a bit energetic but once he knows he is there to stay he becomes calm. He loves sleeping in his doggie bed, lounging around and is great on a leash for walks. He is a smart boy and knows sit, lie down and shake!! Teddy will do just about anything to get a belly rub. He lays flat on his back for you to rub away; it’s hilarious!! He acts much younger than he is and loves a good cuddle.

If you are interested in adopting Teddy, or want to find out more about Motley Zoo Rescue, please visit www.motleyzoo.org or www.motleyzoo.petfinder.com. It is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers. Motley Zoo does not have a shelter location, but instead houses all of its needy pets in foster homes.

Notes about adopting: All potential adopters fill out an application and are interviewed. Fees depend on the veterinarian care that has been given. All adoptable pets have vaccinations and are spayed, neutered, microchipped and flea-treated. Many have dental work done if they are older. All adopters get 30 days of free pet insurance and each dog comes with a leash, collar or harness. Motley Zoo is always looking for foster homes. Fostering is a great way to "test out" your family to see if you are ready for a permanent pet.
